South Moreton - Public House

Public House

The Crown Inn on the High Street is currently open after the recent revolving door of tenants. It was first closed for some years around 1990, but reopened successfully as the last pub to be rebuilt by Wadworth Brewery before the statutory limits on breweries owning public houses. However it declined in the 2000s and closed in 2011, and on two subsequent short-lived attempts to reopen it. It reopened on 21st September 2012

Famous quotes containing the words public and/or house:

Having behind us the producing masses of this nation and the world, supported by the commercial interests, the labor interests, and the toilers everywhere, we will answer their demand for a gold standard by saying to them: You shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns, you shall not crucify mankind upon a cross of gold.
—Administration in the State of Neva, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

Behold now this vast city; a city of refuge, the mansion house of liberty, encompassed and surrounded with his protection; the shop of war hath not there more anvils and hammers waking, to fashion out the plates and instruments of armed justice in defence of beleaguered truth, than there be pens and hands there, sitting by their studious lamps, musing, searching, revolving new notions.
    John Milton (1608–1674)
