South Moreton - Future Plans

Future Plans

In 2003 there was a campaign against the further expansion of Didcot in the direction of North and South Moreton, and as a result housing sites were approved in the opposite direction.

In 2011 Network Rail published a plan to demolish and rebuild Fulscot Bridge at Christmas 2013, closing the main road between Didcot and South Moreton for up to five months. After a successful campaign by the local community charity OXCCARTS, Network Rail announced that it would instead jack up the existing bridge, taking only about a month.

The former Women's Institute Barn was demolished in March 2012 for rebuilding as a private House, leaving South Moreton without a Village Hall, although the School Hall is sometimes available for community functions. The Parochial Church Council has concluded that it is not viable to convert the Church into a community centre, and the church will generally only be open for three services a year. The parish council meets rarely, but has ideas to improve social facilities including the playground and perhaps a village hall.

Famous quotes containing the words future and/or plans:

That children link us with the future is hardly news. . . . When we participate in the growth of children, a sense of wonder must take hold of us, providing for us a sense of future. Without the intimation of concrete individual futures, it is hardly worth bothering with social change and improvement.
    Greta Hofmann Nemiroff (20th century)

The important thing about travel in foreign lands is that it breaks the speech habits and makes you blab less, and breaks the habitual space-feeling because of different village plans and different landscapes. It is less important that there are different mores, for you counteract these with your own reaction- formations.
    Paul Goodman (1911–1972)
