South East Australian Basketball League

The South East Australian Basketball League, often abbreviated to the SEABL consists of two men's and one women's conferences in the Australian Basketball Association (ABA). The SEABL conferences are considered the strongest in the ABA, developing many emerging Australian Boomers players, as well as fostering a highly competitive semi-professional competition. It is considered a second tier national competition to the NBL. The league boasts teams from every state or territory other than Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Since its inception in 1981, the SEABL has provided an elite level of competition for Australian basketballers. Over the years, the league has grown in size and strength, and is now known as Australia’s premiere Winter basketball league.

Famous quotes containing the words south, east, australian, basketball and/or league:

... while the South is hardly Christ-centered, it is most certainly Christ-haunted.
    Flannery O’Connor (1925–1964)

The East is marvellously interesting for tracing our steps back. But for going forward, it is nothing. All it can hope for is to be fertilised by Europe, so that it can start on a new phase.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

    Each Australian is a Ulysses.
    Christina Stead (1902–1983)

Perhaps basketball and poetry have just a few things in common, but the most important is the possibility of transcendence. The opposite is labor. In writing, every writer knows when he or she is laboring to achieve an effect. You want to get from here to there, but find yourself willing it, forcing it. The equivalent in basketball is aiming your shot, a kind of strained and usually ineffective purposefulness. What you want is to be in some kind of flow, each next moment a discovery.
    Stephen Dunn (b. 1939)

Stereotypes fall in the face of humanity. You toodle along, thinking that all gay men wear leather after dark and should never, ever be permitted around a Little League field. And then one day your best friend from college, the one your kids adore, comes out to you.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
