South Carolina Republican Party - The Political System in South Carolina

The Political System in South Carolina

The primary goal of the South Carolina Republican Party, like all political party organizations, is to win elections. These elections designate officials for the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the local, state, and federal levels of government. The state legislature is composed of a Senate containing 46 elected officials and a House of Representatives with 124 members. On the federal level, citizens of South Carolina also elect two senators and seven representatives to the United States Congress. The executive branch of South Carolina is headed by a Governor elected to a four-year term. The state also has nine electoral college votes for every Presidential election.

Famous quotes containing the words political, system, south and/or carolina:

Feminism is hated because women are hated. Anti-feminism is a direct expression of misogyny; it is the political defense of women hating.
    Andrea Dworkin (b. 1946)

Daily life is governed by an economic system in which the production and consumption of insults tends to balance out.
    Raoul Vaneigem (b. 1934)

...I always said if I lived to get grown and had a chance, I was going to try to get something for my mother and I was going to do something for the black man of the South if it would cost my life; I was determined to see that things were changed.
    Fannie Lou Hamer (1917–1977)

The great problem of American life [is] the riddle of authority: the difficulty of finding a way, within a liberal and individualistic social order, of living in harmonious and consecrated submission to something larger than oneself.... A yearning for self-transcendence and submission to authority [is] as deeply rooted as the lure of individual liberation.
Wilfred M. McClay, educator, author. The Masterless: Self and Society in Modern America, p. 4, University of North Carolina Press (1994)
