South Beach (nightclub)

South Beach is an after hours nightclub located in Houston, Texas within the Neartown area which opened in 2002 on the former site of Club Heaven. The 10,000-square-foot (930 m2) dance club located at 810 Pacific Street is popular among the city's gay community. In 2007, the club was voted Houston's Best Gay Bar by AOL City Guide and again was awarded Houston's Best Gay Bar 2008 and Houston's Best Dance Club 2008 by AOL City Guide. The club was previously awarded as one of the "Best of 2006" by the Houston Press.

Among South Beach’s many features is a full-color water-cooled matrix laser light show utilizing Kryogen Ifex liquid ice Jets that spray out a thick cloud of liquid Ice. The ice jets have the ability to reduce the temperature of the club by 20 °F (−7 °C) in a few seconds. Additionally, the club also features go-go boys.

South Beach is owned by Charles Armstrong. Charles Armstrong also owns a number of other gay venues in the same area, including JR's Bar & Grill, Montrose Mining Company, and Meteor.

Famous quotes containing the words south and/or beach:

In the far South the sun of autumn is passing
Like Walt Whitman walking along a ruddy shore.
He is singing and chanting the things that are part of him,
The worlds that were and will be, death and day.
Nothing is final, he chants. No man shall see the end.
His beard is of fire and his staff is a leaping flame.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

The dominant and most deep-dyed trait of the journalist is his timorousness. Where the novelist fearlessly plunges into the water of self-exposure, the journalist stands trembling on the shore in his beach robe.... The journalist confines himself to the clean, gentlemanly work of exposing the griefs and shames of others.
    Janet Malcolm (b. 1934)
