SOS (ABBA Song) - Sampling/Influence On Other Songs

Sampling/Influence On Other Songs

  • Punk rock band The Sex Pistols used the riff of "SOS" as the introduction to their track "Pretty Vacant". The chorus of "Pretty Vacant" was also inspired by "SOS".
  • The song's bridge melody (from "When you're gone" to "try to go on") was used in the 1983 hit country music song "Islands in the Stream" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. The using remains uncredited, as the melody itself was slightly rearranged, with few notes being dropped from the original, and instead of the original piano and synth sounds, horns are used.
  • In 1989, Austrian group Edelweiss used the melody behind "SOS" as part of their biggest-selling single "Bring Me Edelweiss".

Famous quotes containing the words influence and/or songs:

The adolescent does not develop her identity and individuality by moving outside her family. She is not triggered by some magic unconscious dynamic whereby she rejects her family in favour of her peers or of a larger society.... She continues to develop in relation to her parents. Her mother continues to have more influence over her than either her father or her friends.
    Terri Apter (20th century)

We can never see Christianity from the catechism:Mfrom the pastures, from a boat in the pond, from amidst the songs of wood- birds we possibly may.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
