Sonia Cubitt, Baroness Ashcombe

Sonia Rosemary Cubitt, Baroness Ashcombe (née Keppel) OBE DStJ (24 May 1900 – 16 August 1986) was the daughter of The Hon. George Keppel and his wife, Alice (a mistress of King Edward VII) and the grandmother of the Duchess of Cornwall. Violet Trefusis was her (only) sister.

On 16 November 1920, she married Hon. Roland Cubitt (who later succeeded his father as Baron Ashcombe, whereupon Sonia became Baroness Ashcombe), at the Guards Chapel of Wellington Barracks in London. They were divorced in 1947 after having had three children:

  • Rosalind Maud Cubitt (b. 11 August 1921 – 14 July 1994), who married Bruce Shand and whose daughter is Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
  • Henry Cubitt (b. 31 March 1924)
  • Jeremy John Cubitt (b. 7 May 1927 – 12 January 1958)
