So Gospel News.com - History

History

SoGospelNews.com - http://sogospelnews.com - was formed over 15 years ago by Deon & Susan Unthank, then of Southaven, Mississippi. The site was birthed from an email discussion group by the same name. The SoGospelNews email discussion list was created by the Unthanks after the Singing News shut down its extremely popular discussion list.

SoGospelNews started as a simple webpage listing artists, fans, individuals, etc. that were avid supporters of the newly formed SoGospelNews talk list. The site eventually took on printing news for Southern Gospel artists, and eventually took on reviewing the latest recordings from both signed and independent artists within the small genre. Since the genre as a whole did not see the internet, SoGospelNews became the most viewed Southern Gospel website on the internet with over 11,000,000 hits per month, and over 660,000 unique hits per week.

Deon & Susan Unthank's family has now become involved in the site, as well as the addition of several staff writers. The website has now based operations out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

In April 2010 SoGospelNews changed its name to AbsolutelyGospel.com . The name change allows them to cover news items of not only Southern Gospel, but also Country Gospel, Inspirational, and Black Gospel.

On January 5, 2011, Susan Unthank died, leaving the website in control of Deon and their son, Chris.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

    The custard is setting; meanwhile
I not only have my own history to worry about
But am forced to fret over insufficient details related to large
Unfinished concepts that can never bring themselves to the point
Of being, with or without my help, if any were forthcoming.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

... in America ... children are instructed in the virtues of the system they live under, as though history had achieved a happy ending in American civics.
    Mary McCarthy (1912–1989)

We have need of history in its entirety, not to fall back into it, but to see if we can escape from it.
    José Ortega Y Gasset (1883–1955)
