- A former headmaster, John Harris, was Vice-Chairman of the National Grammar Schools Association.
- In February 2006, 300 students of the school were struck down by influenza.
- In early 2011 the school became one of the first sites in the world to utilise the kinetic energy from the students' walking over pressure pads in a corridor with PaveGen systems technology that converts the energy from footsteps into electricity.
