Shortland Street Hospital - History

History

Shortland Street Hospital has changed over the times to reflect changes in the New Zealand health system.

When Shortland Street commenced, the hospital was known as the Shortland Street Medical Centre and was referred to as being an accident and emergency clinic. In 2000, the clinic's location was shifted after the original clinic succumbed to liquefaction. The new location was much larger than the original and in 2001 it became a public hospital. It received another upgrade in 2007, becoming the new-look hospital it is now.
