Shimojishima Airport

Shimojishima Airport (下地島空港, Shimojishima Kūkō?, (IATA: SHI, ICAO: RORS)) is located on the island of Shimojishima in Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan.

The prefecture operates the airport, which is classified as a third class airport.

On July 22, 1994 Japan Transocean Air suspended flights.

As of 2005, the airport was in use as a training facility for Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways. The long runway makes the facility well-suited for "touch-and-go landing" practice maneuvers.

Famous quotes containing the word airport:

Airplanes are invariably scheduled to depart at such times as 7:54, 9:21 or 11:37. This extreme specificity has the effect on the novice of instilling in him the twin beliefs that he will be arriving at 10:08, 1:43 or 4:22, and that he should get to the airport on time. These beliefs are not only erroneous but actually unhealthy.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
