Desman is of Portuguese descent. Desman is the oldest of three brothers. His brothers are Canadian singer Danny Fernandes and Jonathan Fernandes. Their mother is Silvana Fernandes. Canadian singer Tyler Medeiros is his cousin.
Shawn is married to Chantelle Leonardo-Fernandes. They have two sons, Cayden (2008) and Owen (2011). Shawn and Chantelle run a dance studio called Tha Spot Dance Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
