History of The Product and Advert
First going on air in the early 1980s, the advertisement featured the English actress Jenny Logan, dancing around a typical British living room in high heels, shaking the powder onto a carpet and vacuuming it up, while appearing to sing a musical jingle. The main lyric is "do the Shake n' Vac, and put the freshness back". The vocals were actually recorded by South African session vocalist, Miriam Stockley.
The jingle was in a 1950s rock and roll retro style. This style was very popular in the 1970s and 1980s in the UK. In 2000, the advertisement polled 18th place in the Channel 4 The 100 Greatest TV Adverts programme.
Logan also appeared on This Morning in 2004 as a guest to talk about the commercial.
In 2010, an updated version of the advertisement (with Jenny Logan) was made and published on television for the public.

Famous quotes containing the words history of, history and/or product:
“So in accepting the leading of the sentiments, it is not what we believe concerning the immortality of the soul, or the like, but the universal impulse to believe, that is the material circumstance, and is the principal fact in this history of the globe.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“He wrote in prison, not a History of the World, like Raleigh, but an American book which I think will live longer than that. I do not know of such words, uttered under such circumstances, and so copiously withal, in Roman or English or any history.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Cultural expectations shade and color the images that parents- to-be form. The baby product ads, showing a woman serenely holding her child, looking blissfully and mysteriously contented, or the television parents, wisely and humorously solving problems, influence parents-to-be.”
—Ellen Galinsky (20th century)
