Established on 19 October 1940 as the Hawaiian Air Force at Fort Shafter, Territory of Hawaii, the 7 AF was a United States Army Air Forces combat air force in the Pacific Theater of World War II, providing air defense of the Hawaiian Islands and engaging in combat operations primarily in the Central Pacific AOR. Returning to its defense role in Hawaii after the war, 7 AF became the primary USAF command and control organization in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
7 AF is commanded by Lieutenant General Jan-Marc Jouas. Its Command Chief Master Sergeant is Chief Master Sergeant Scott A. Delveau.
Famous quotes containing the words seventh, air and/or force:
“Grovelling,
intimate words,
heart-stealing flattery,
a tight embrace
of my thinner-than-thin body,
violent kisses all over
obviously,
getting angry is worth the risk,
but even still,
Im not interested.
My lover
is dear to my heart,
so how could I be like that
on purpose?”
—Amaru (c. seventh century A.D.)
“That air would disappear from the whole earth in time, perhaps; but long after his day. He did not know just when it had become so necessary to him, but he had come back to die in exile for the sake of it. Something soft and wild and free, something that whispered to the ear on the pillow, lightened the heart, softly, softly picked the lock, slid the bolts, and released the prisoned spirit of man into the wind, into the blue and gold, into the morning, into the morning!”
—Willa Cather (18731947)
“The body, what is it, Father, but a sign
To love the force that grows us, to give back
What in Thy palm is senselessness and mud?”
—Karl Shapiro (b. 1913)
