Ski Area
The maximum elevation for skiing is at Telesiege Yret at 2,800 m (9,190 ft) above sea level, and the minimum is 1,200 m (3,940 ft), a total vertical drop of 1,600 m (5,250 ft). One of the outstanding features of Serre Chevalier is the wooded nature of the slopes. The timber line is at 2,150 m (7,050 ft), yielding about 700 m (2,300 ft) of vertical drop of tree-lined slopes. The slopes are managed by the CDA, and there are 62 lifts: 35 drag lifts, 21 chairs (includes 7 six-passengers chairs and 3 high-speed quads), 2 cable cars and 4 gondolas. There are 102 slopes (24 Green, 28 Blue, 37 Red, 13 Black).
With its great natural terrain, Serre-Chevalier is widely regarded as one of the top snowboarding destinations in France

Famous quotes containing the words ski and/or area:
“The goal for all blind skiers is more freedom. You dont have to see where youre going, as long as you go. In skiing, you ski with your legs and not with your eyes. In life, you experience things with your mind and your body. And if youre lacking one of the five senses, you adapt.”
—Lorita Bertraun, Blind American skier. As quoted in WomenSports magazine, p. 29 (January 1976)
“Many women are reluctant to allow men to enter their domain. They dont want men to acquire skills in what has traditionally been their area of competence and one of their main sources of self-esteem. So while they complain about the males unwillingness to share in domestic duties, they continually push the male out when he moves too confidently into what has previously been their exclusive world.”
—Bettina Arndt (20th century)
