Format
The league is formed by 18 clubs which play all against one another twice, once at home, once away. The top two clubs are directly promoted to the Serbian SuperLiga, while the bottom are relegated to the Serbian League. The Football Association of Serbia announced that in the 2012–13 Serbian First League edition, 6 clubs will be relegated at the end of the season, two more that usually, so the season 2013–14 will be reduced to 16 clubs.
