Scaly Foot

Scaly foot is a bird ailment that is common among finches, parakeets (budgies), and canaries. It is caused by mites burrowing into the animal's flesh. The tracts made by the mites within the skin cause scaly lesions. Scaly foot is caused by the same mites responsible for scaly face in budgies; the only difference between these two ailments is the location of the infestation.

Famous quotes containing the words scaly and/or foot:

One classic American landscape haunts all of American literature. It is a picture of Eden, perceived at the instant of history when corruption has just begun to set in. The serpent has shown his scaly head in the undergrowth. The apple gleams on the tree. The old drama of the Fall is ready to start all over again.
    Jonathan Raban (b. 1942)

Few and signally blessed are those whom Jupiter has destined to be cabbage-planters. For they’ve always one foot on the ground and the other not far from it. Anyone is welcome to argue about felicity and supreme happiness. But the man who plants cabbages I now positively declare to be the happiest of mortals.
    François Rabelais (c. 1494–1553)
