The club was founded in 1958, under the name 'Avanhard'. Tavriya played their first game in the USSR Championship against the Yaroslav based club Khimik. Overall, Tavriya played 132 clubs from 113 cities. They played their last match of the Soviet competition against FC Uralmash Yekaterinburg.
