Republican National Committeeman From Michigan
During the 2012 Michigan Republican State Convention, the biggest upheaval within the state party in years took place. Delegates ousted Michigan's two members of the RNC, Anuzis and Holly Hughes, replacing them with Dave Agema and Terri Lynn Land. Anuzis was a past candidate for RNC chairman and a player in national Republican politics since 1988. Anuzis lost by a margin of 69% to 30% to challenger Dave Agema. (The remaining 1% of the vote went to Gerald LaRouche.) Notable in this is that the delegation of each of Michigan's 14 congressional districts voted for Agema.
While Washington and Lansing were quick to see the party putsch as a big win for the tea party, some state that it was due to Ron Paul supporters who had never forgiven him for denouncing their candidate shortly after a presidential debate in 2007. While he was serving as state party chair, Anuzis had said he would introduce a resolution to bar Paul from future debates and remove Paul's name from the Michigan ballot.

Famous quotes containing the words republican and/or national:
“A man of great employments and excellent performance used to assure me that he did not think a man worth anything until he was sixty; although this smacks a little of the resolution of a certain Young Mens Republican Club, that all men should be held eligible who are under seventy.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Mr. Christian, it is about time for many people to begin to come to the White House to discuss different phases of the coal strike. When anybody comes, if his special problem concerns the state, refer him to the governor of Pennsylvania. If his problem has a national phase, refer him to the United States Coal Commission. In no event bring him to me.”
—Calvin Coolidge (18721933)
