History

Historically, the airport had nonstop and direct Douglas DC-9 jet service to Dallas Love Field (DAL) with continuing, no change of plane service to Houston on Texas International Airlines (which previously operated as TTa, Trans-Texas Airways, flying Douglas DC-9-10 jet service from Santa Fe to Albuquerque, Roswell and Midland/Odessa on a direct route to Dallas), as well as nonstop service to Phoenix, AZ on America West Express, which utilized Beechcraft 1900C turboprop aircraft operated by regional carrier Mesa Airlines. TTa and Texas International also operated flights with Convair 600 twin turboprop aircraft from Santa Fe to Albuquerque and other destinations in New Mexico and Texas with many of these flights continuing on to Dallas.

Trans World Airlines (TWA) provided service during the 1950s and early 1960s. TWA flew Lockheed Constellation four engine propellor aircraft into Santa Fe with direct, no change of plane service from Kansas City, Chicago, New York and Boston. TWA also operated flights to Albuquerque and Los Angeles. Continental Airlines served Santa Fe as well with Vickers Viscount four engine turboprop airliners during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Continental operated direct, no change of plane service to Denver, El Paso and Dallas in addition to nonstop flights to Colorado Springs and service to Albuquerque. The original Frontier Airlines (1950-1986) flew nonstop service from Santa Fe to Denver in the 1960s with direct service to Phoenix, Tucson and El Paso as well as service to Albuquerque and other destinations in New Mexico and Colorado. Frontier operated Convair 580 twin turboprop aircraft on their flights serving Santa Fe.

In later years, several commuter airlines flew nonstop services to Denver, including Mesa Airlines and Great Lakes Airlines with Beechcraft 1900C turboprops, and Pioneer Airlines with Beechcraft C99 turboprops. Mountain Air Express served Santa Fe as well operating Dornier 328 propjet flights to Denver and Albuquerque on behalf of Western Pacific Airlines.
