Sandringham Football Club

The Sandringham Football Club, nicknamed The Zebras, is an Australian rules football club based in Melbourne which was formed in 1929 and plays in the Victorian Football League (VFL) which was formerly called the Victorian Football Association (VFA).

The Zebras have a five-year alignment agreement with Australian Football League (AFL) club St Kilda of which the first season was 2009. The alignment agreement means that St Kilda listed players who are able to play but not selected for the Saints in the AFL are available to be selected for the Zebras in the VFL. Previously, Sandringham had an alignment with Melbourne. Sandringham and Melbourne were the first two clubs to form an alignment. This was announced in 1999 and began in the 2000 season. The alignment had an immediate effect with Sandringham winning the 2000 grand final. Sandringham and St Kilda signed a five-year alignment on 1 November 2008.

In 2005, the Zebras defeated Werribee in the VFL grand final to win their ninth premiership and achieve back to back grand final wins for the first time in the club's history.

In 2006, the Zebras again made the VFL grand final, this time defeating Geelong to achieve a record of three successive premierships.

The Zebra's home ground is the Trevor Barker Beach Oval. The Sandringham Dragons play in the TAC Cup and are due to become part of the Sandringham club in the near future.

Famous quotes containing the words football and/or club:

...I’m not money hungry.... People who are rich want to be richer, but what’s the difference? You can’t take it with you. The toys get different, that’s all. The rich guys buy a football team, the poor guys buy a football. It’s all relative.
    Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)

Women ... are completely alone, though they were born and bred upon this soil, as if they belonged to another class in creation.
