San Gabriel Mission High School, the "school with a mission," is an all-girls Catholic College Preparatory high school located on the grounds of the fourth mission of California, which was founded in 1771 by the Franciscan Padres and often used by Father Junipero Serra as his headquarters. It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Their Mission statement is:
- The work of every San Gabriel Mission High School community member is directed toward the growth and maturation of each student through Christian formation, the pursuit of academic excellence, the cultivation of respect toward self and others, participation in Christian service, and recognition of the importance and value of all humanity.
The Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, who arrived in California in 1876, have administered and taught at Mission since its founding in 1949. It was originally co-educational, but there were many classes where the boys and girls were separated. There were two principals, one for the boys and one for the girls. Some classes were co-educational.
