Athletics

The most notable Saginaw High School sports teams are gymnastics, basketball, soccer, football, softball, and cross country track. The 2009 boys Soccer team made their first-ever playoff appearance. Coaches Sam Trevino, Jason Carnley and Coach Jason Crawford guided the team to a playoff berth with a fourth-place finish in district play. The men's gymnastics team placed sixth at the UIL state meet in 2010, and improved their placement to 3rd in 2011. They even went on to win the state meet in 2012. Although some of the programs have had success, the football team has yet to have a successful season. They posted a 1–9 record for the 2011 season, showing massive improvements from the abomination of the 2010 season, where the team went winless, and posted a −338 point differential over 10 games. They cut the point differential down to 190 in the 2011 season. The 2009 season the team played in its first and last ever playoff game, despite only winning 4 games. The team is under coach Mike Peters, who faces a career 1–19 record going into the 2012 season.
