Russian Orthodox Church in Great Britain and Ireland

The United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland contain two Russian Orthodox groups.

The most numerous group is the Moscow Patriarchate's Diocese of Sourozh. There is also the Diocese of Great Britain and Ireland of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia.

Famous quotes containing the words russian, orthodox, church, britain and/or ireland:

...I never drink wine ... I keep my hands soft and supple ... I sleep in a soft bed and never over-tire my body. It is because when my hour strikes I must be a perfect instrument. My eyes must be steady, my brain clear, my nerves calm, my aim true. I must be prepared to do my work, successfully if God wills. But if I perish, I perish.

All orthodox opinion—that is, today, “revolutionary” opinion either of the pure or the impure variety—is anti-man.
    Wyndham Lewis (1882–1957)

She say, Celie, tell the truth, have you ever found God in church? I never did. I just found a bunch of folks hoping for him to show. Any God I ever felt in church I brought in with me. And I think all the other folks did too. They come to church to share God, not find God.
    Alice Walker (b. 1944)

The proposition that Muslims are welcome in Britain if, and only if, they stop behaving like Muslims is a doctrine which is incompatible with the principles that guide a free society.
    Roy Hattersley (b. 1932)

It is often said that in Ireland there is an excess of genius unsustained by talent; but there is talent in the tongues.
