The current Royal Marines Armoured Support Group (RMASG) is an element of the Royal Marines that operates the Viking BvS 10 All Terrain Vehicle. It is the successor to the Royal Marines Armoured Support Company, and is, in effect, on permanent loan from operational command of 3 Commando Brigade to the Battle Group currently in Afghanistan. It is based at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in Somerset.
In the Second World War, the RMASG was formed to give British and Commonwealth forces heavy fire support in the opening attacks of the Normandy Landings.

Famous quotes containing the words royal, support and/or group:
“Here was a royal fellowship of death.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“The community and family networks which helped sustain earlier generations have become scarcer for growing numbers of young parents. Those who lack links to these traditional sources of support are hard-pressed to find other resources, given the emphasis in our society on providing treatment services, rather than preventive services and support for health maintenance and well-being.”
—Bernice Weissbourd (20th century)
“Just as a person who is always asserting that he is too good-natured is the very one from whom to expect, on some occasion, the coldest and most unconcerned cruelty, so when any group sees itself as the bearer of civilization this very belief will betray it into behaving barbarously at the first opportunity.”
—Simone Weil (19101943)
