Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Parks Police

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Parks Police is a body of constables responsible for policing the parks and open spaces of the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. In 2008, the constabulary made 30 arrests, mainly for possession of drugs, minor thefts and antisocial behaviour. One million people visit the parks every year.

Members of the constabulary are sworn in as constables under section 18, Ministry of Housing and Local Government Provision Order Confirmation (Greater London Parks and Open Spaces) Act 1967. Such constables have the powers of a constable to deal with bye-laws relating to parks and open spaces under their control. They are not police officers and are not afforded the same powers and responsibilities as police constables.

The policing of the parks of the borough is the statutory responsibility of the Metropolitan Police Service.

Famous quotes containing the words royal, kensington, parks and/or police:

The Royal Navy of England hath ever been its greatest defence and ornament; it is its ancient and natural strength; the floating bulwark of the island.
    William Blackstone (1723–1780)

Like a skein of loose silk blown against a wall
She walks by the railing of a path in Kensington Gardens,
    And she is dying piecemeal
of a sort of emotional anemia.
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)

Perhaps our own woods and fields,—in the best wooded towns, where we need not quarrel about the huckleberries,—with the primitive swamps scattered here and there in their midst, but not prevailing over them, are the perfection of parks and groves, gardens, arbors, paths, vistas, and landscapes. They are the natural consequence of what art and refinement we as a people have.... Or, I would rather say, such were our groves twenty years ago.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Well, intuition isn’t much help in police work. Facts are what we need.
    Crane Wilbur (1889–1973)
