Rossiya 1 - History

History

Rossiya 1 had started in 1965 as Program 3 in the Soviet Union and moved to Channel 2 in 1967 when a new channel, Program 4 (now known as NTV) and Moscow Program was transferred to Channel 3. Program 3 was actually All-Union Program 2 until 1976 and renamed All-Union Television 2 all the way until 1984. The last 7 years, All Union Television 2 was renamed All-Union Channel 2 until it was renamed RTR Television in 1991.

Rossiya 1 is the successor to the Soviet Second Channel. As of 2008, it is headed by Oleg Dobrodeev, who was a founder of the original NTV.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of the past is but one long struggle upward to equality.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

In nature, all is useful, all is beautiful. It is therefore beautiful, because it is alive, moving, reproductive; it is therefore useful, because it is symmetrical and fair. Beauty will not come at the call of a legislature, nor will it repeat in England or America its history in Greece. It will come, as always, unannounced, and spring up between the feet of brave and earnest men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

History, as an entirety, could only exist in the eyes of an observer outside it and outside the world. History only exists, in the final analysis, for God.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)
