Ropes Creek Railway Line - Station Buildings

Station Buildings

The station buildings along the line were built from different materials.

  • Dunheved station was a weatherboard building which the Station Masters Office/Booking Office, Waiting Room & Store Room was destroyed by fire when vandals broke in and set it on fire on the evening of 20 November 1983. It had a 32 lever frame to operate signals and points.
  • Cochrane station was classed as unattended with no booking office facilities and a roadway bridge over the middle of the station. It had a waiting room on platform 1 (up branch) and awnings over both platforms.
  • Ropes Creek station was of weatherboard construction, commonly used at the time by the NSWGR. It had a 40 lever frame to operate signals and points. There was a waiting room and toilet facilities provided. At the foot of the stairs, a small weatherboard structure was provided for station staff to stand in while tickets were collected. In June 2011, the station building was destroyed by fire.

There is now a notice at the southern end of the site indicating that an historical centre may be erected.

Famous quotes containing the words station and/or buildings:

Say first, of God above, or Man below,
What can we reason, but from what we know?
Of Man what see we, but his station here,
From which to reason, or to which refer?
Thro’ worlds unnumber’d tho’ the God be known,
‘Tis ours to trace him only in our own.

    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)

If the factory people outside the colleges live under the discipline of narrow means, the people inside live under almost every other kind of discipline except that of narrow means—from the fruity austerities of learning, through the iron rations of English gentlemanhood, down to the modest disadvantages of occupying cold stone buildings without central heating and having to cross two or three quadrangles to take a bath.
    Margaret Halsey (b. 1910)
