Men's Team Competition

Romania's first round opponents in the second Olympic handball tournament included the West German team as well as Norway and Spain. Romania beat all three, concluding with a 13-11 win over the Germans, to take first place in the group and advance to the second round. There, the team defeated Hungary but was defeated by eventual gold medallist Yugoslavia to put Romania in second place in the group and relegate the team to the bronze medal game. They won the medal, defeating the East Germans 19-16.
