Roland Rhythm 55 - Drum Sounds

Drum Sounds

The Rhythm 55's drum voices are listed below. (They are the same as for the Rhythm 33.) The sounds are generated by analogue synthesis techniques, and, as is typical with this technology, the sounds themselves, although possessing a certain musical charm, are not particularly realistic imitations of their acoustic namesakes.

The following voices are generated by "tuned resonance" type circuits:

  • bass drum
  • low conga
  • high conga
  • cow bell
  • rim shot
  • claves

The following voices are generated by shaped white noise:

  • snare drum
  • hi hat
  • maraca
  • cymbal

The only control on the front panel for adjusting the sounds is a balance control, which alters the relative levels of the bass drum and the cymbal/hi hat/maracas sounds.

Famous quotes containing the words drum and/or sounds:

Not a drum was heard, not a funeral note,
    As his corse to the rampart we hurried;
    Charles Wolfe (1791–1823)

We may say that feelings have two kinds of intensity. One is the intensity of the feeling itself, by which loud sounds are distinguished from faint ones, luminous colors from dark ones, highly chromatic colors from almost neutral tints, etc. The other is the intensity of consciousness that lays hold of the feeling, which makes the ticking of a watch actually heard infinitely more vivid than a cannon shot remembered to have been heard a few minutes ago.
    Charles Sanders Peirce (1839–1914)
