Robin Janvrin, Baron Janvrin - in Popular Culture

In Popular Culture

Janvrin was portrayed by Roger Allam in Stephen Frears' The Queen (2006) starring Oscar-winner Dame Helen Mirren. The film, which deals with the immediate aftermath of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997, inaccurately portrays Janvrin, then Deputy Private Secretary to the Sovereign, as Private Secretary (or at least heavily implies as much, though it is never explicitly said), an office to which he would only be appointed two years after the events depicted in the film. Apparently this was due to the fact that Robert Fellowes, then the Private Secretary, was an in-law of the deceased Diana and this would present complications for the film script.

Famous quotes containing the words popular culture, popular and/or culture:

The lowest form of popular culture—lack of information, misinformation, disinformation, and a contempt for the truth or the reality of most people’s lives—has overrun real journalism. Today, ordinary Americans are being stuffed with garbage.
    Carl Bernstein (b. 1944)

Books of natural history aim commonly to be hasty schedules, or inventories of God’s property, by some clerk. They do not in the least teach the divine view of nature, but the popular view, or rather the popular method of studying nature, and make haste to conduct the persevering pupil only into that dilemma where the professors always dwell.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

I’ve finally figured out why soap operas are, and logically should be, so popular with generations of housebound women. They are the only place in our culture where grown-up men take seriously all the things that grown-up women have to deal with all day long.
    Gloria Steinem (b. 1934)
