A man who seeing his mother starving to death on a path kicks her in the stomach to clear the way, will cheerfully devote several hours of his time giving wrong directions to a total stranger who claims to be lost.
    John Steinbeck (1902–1968)

It is certainly safe, in view of the movement to the right of intellectuals and political thinkers, to pronounce the brain death of socialism.
    Norman Tebbit (b. 1931)

John McKay: You make that sound like a death sentence.
Jeremy Larner, U.S. screenwriter. Lucas (Peter Boyle)
