The incorporation of the town was dated early 1500s during the regime of the Spanish era in the Philippines. The town of Rizal in Cagayan is not Rizal in the times of Spanish regime, but the town was called "Malaueg". In that time, many Spanish friars were converting the people to Christians. The town was very mountainous that they had to rest and begin again the way to the peak of the Mount. Malaueg. In this situation, these friars became thirsty because of the unbearable heat of the sun. Then one of the Malaueg people gave some water to them. The friar asked where the water came from and the man who gave the water uttered the word "UEG" that means fresh water. Then this friar had experienced a stomach pain that led him say "MALO" which means bad. The word then finally combined and called as "MALO-UEG" that means bad brook. The name was later permanently given until 1903 and in the honor of the Philippine National Hero who is Dr. Jose Rizal, the town was later called Rizal and in its early years, it was said as the Spanish peaks because of its tall mountains that stands until today in the certain town.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by handa center of gravity.”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
“It takes a great deal of history to produce a little literature.”
—Henry James (18431916)
“America is the only nation in history which, miraculously, has gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without the usual interval of civilization.”
—Attributed to Georges Clemenceau (18411929)
