Regufe

Regufe is a neighourhood of the Portuguese city of Póvoa de Varzim. located inland, it has very different topologies and little development, being mostly composed of family homes.

Regufe is an ancient place: a former village between the towns of Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde. Regufe's name is of Suebi origin from Rekaufus: Rec + wulf (wolf).

It was a farming and cattle area, but in its farms and woods, houses and buildings started being raised. In certain areas of the neighouhood, mostly, in the border with Vila do Conde, this kind of living can still be seen.

Regufe is located in the South part of Matriz/Mariadeira district. Part of it was included in Bairro Sul district, and other part had always been part of Vila do Conde.

Farol de Regufe (22 metres tall) is the symbol of the neighbourhood; it is a metallic lighthouse painted red.
