Raoul Castex - Theories

Theories

Between 1929 and 1939, Castex wrote Théories Stratégiques, where he exposes a thesis on the link between land and naval warfare, and on a national "gravity centre" which, in the case of France, would be situated off Europe. He argues that the "gravity centre" should have been displaced to Northern Africa before 1939, with installation of main armament factories and government centres.

In 1939, Castex suggested granting independence to French Indochina, deemed indefensible against the Japanese Empire, and to Syria and Lebanon, then under French mandate, as to make allies out of them.

In 1955, Castex published an article in the Revue de la Défense Nationale (National Defence review) titled "La Russie, rempart de l'Occident" (Russia, the wall of the West) where he theoricises the rise of China and her upcoming rivalry with the West, including Russia.

Famous quotes containing the word theories:

We do not talk—we bludgeon one another with facts and theories gleaned from cursory readings of newspapers, magazines and digests.
    Henry Miller (1891–1980)

It takes twenty or so years before a mother can know with any certainty how effective her theories have been—and even then there are surprises. The daily newspapers raise the most frightening questions of all for a mother of sons: Could my once sweet babes ever become violent men? Are my sons really who I think they are?
    Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)

The real trouble about women is that they must always go on trying to adapt themselves to men’s theories of women, as they always have done. When a woman is thoroughly herself, she is being what her type of man wants her to be. When a woman is hysterical it’s because she doesn’t quite know what to be, which pattern to follow, which man’s picture of woman to live up to.
