Ragnar ZSolberg - Solo Project

Solo Project

At the age of 11 Ragnar had so many demos of his own songs that his father offered him to record an album and publish it via his record label. The result, Upplifun (“Experience”), featured Ragnars range of original rock/pop material. It did not sell that much but gave Ragnar a taste of what was to come. And with his dad as a drummer and his mother as a roadie the future was lying just in front of him. And when Ragnar got an 8-track recorder from his parents he wrote and recorded one song per day for the next two years. As a result of this Ragnar, only 14, adapted the name Zolberg and started his first real band called "Sign" which made an even better musician out of him. For his work with "Sign" he received awards, toured around Europe with The Wildhearts, Aiden, Wednesday 13 and Skid Row, played at Downloads main stage and released four albums - two in English and 2 in his mother language Icelandic.

After 8 years of fronting the heavy rock outfit "Sign" Ragnar started working on his solo project again. Releasing his second album “The Circle” under his full name (Ragnar Sólberg) in December 2008 where he produced and played all instruments himself.

The following year Ragnar moved to Sweden with his family and started writing more songs and developing his sound even further, at the same time he released "The Circle (darker side)" digitally, an album which consisted of B-side material from "The Circle" sessions.

That same year Ragnar appeared on German television in a Vodafone commercial where he performed a cover version of David Bowie's classic "Heroes". The song was released digitally in Germany but is still unreleased in the rest of the world.

In December 2010 Ragnar came back with "The Hanged Man", a 14-track album which he worked on in the Swedish woods and in his family's studio in Iceland, as he explains it: "I had to go there a couple of times to attend funerals and I stopped by in the studio to record drums for the album." Ragnar had then added the "Z" to his name again, going under "Ragnar ZSolberg". The album offered much heavier sound than his previous effort and was really a combination of the acoustic sound from "the Circle" and Sign on the other hand.

Famous quotes containing the words solo and/or project:

All mothers need instruction, nurturing, and an understanding mentor after the birth of a baby, but in this age of fast foods, fast tracks, and fast lanes, it doesn’t always happen. While we live in a society that provides recognition for just about every life event—from baptisms to bar mitzvahs, from wedding vows to funeral rites—the entry into parenting seems to be a solo flight, with nothing and no one to mark formally the new mom’s entry into motherhood.
    Sally Placksin (20th century)

They had their fortunes to make, everything to gain and nothing to lose. They were schooled in and anxious for debates; forcible in argument; reckless and brilliant. For them it was but a short and natural step from swaying juries in courtroom battles over the ownership of land to swaying constituents in contests for office. For the lawyer, oratory was the escalator that could lift a political candidate to higher ground.
