Raghavendra Swami - Other Miracles

Other Miracles

Guru Raghavendra Swami performed numerous miracles of which only a few have been recorded in history.

Once during a tour, the parivaara (family) which accompanied Guru Raghavendra Swami reached a village which had a Chamundeswari/Durga temple. The purohit was an ardent devotee of the mother goddess, but was constantly nagged by his wife who was overcome with greed for wealth, especially jewellry. Once a devotee presented a necklace made of precious stones to the goddess which came to the notice of the purohit's wife, who coerced her husband to steal it. No sooner than they stole it, great misfortune was sought upon them. The wife lost the ability to speak and the husband was declared a thief and denied entry to the temple.

The aggrieved couple approached Guru Raghavendra swami, to whom they confessed their ghastly act profusely. Guru Raghavendra swami then medidated on the mother goddess and brought relief to the couple and declared that their misdeed was now forgiven and they are as pure as they were before to which the localites took affront. The great swami requested them to bring a cloth stained in cashewnut oil (it is impossible to clean a cloth with this stain). Swami then sprinkled the holy water on the stained cloth and to everyone's surprise the cloth became as good as new. Thus, again proving that unwavering devotion in the lord will purify one's soul and place it on the journey to a higher path.

Another miracle must be remembered here. Guru Raghavendra Swami on his tour reached a village in which a rich man (Desai) resided. He was always against spiritual rituals and practices enshrined in the Vedas. Upon knowing this Guru Raghavendra swami welcomed this as an opportunity to once again extol the power of the Vedas. Angered by this, the desai took a pestle and challenged Guruji to make it sprout just like any healthy plant would. The great swami accepted this challenge and for several days meditated and offered the holy water from his kamandala to the pestle. On the last day, the desai himself was stunned as he witnessed the miracle. The pestle had sprouted and looked fit to grow into a healthy tree. He offered his surrender to guruji and became a staunch advocate of the vedas henceforth.

Another miracle with the connection to this very person is very very popular. Desai had invited Sri Raghavendra Swamy in his house for a pooja. Every thing was fine till swamiji observed that the Desai and his family was not coming in front of swamiji. Swamiji enquired to find that a great misfortune had struck the Desai family their son had fallen in a huge drum of mango syrup and died!!! Swamiji said that, "this not the time of your son's death" and ordered to present the body in front of him immediately. the child was brought swamiji took water from is kamadalu, sprinkeled it on the child and to everyone's utter amazement the child woke up!!! This is the reason that Swamiji is worshiped as the kul guru{teacher to the entire kula} in Desai family. Its important to note that a person tried to test Swamiji by faking his son's death and asking Swamiji make him alive and child was found dead after Swamiji left. Swamiji only answered "I can only save those who have a life left".

Faith can revive the dead doubt can cause only harm.

Famous quotes containing the word miracles:

The student of Nature wonders the more and is astonished the less, the more conversant he becomes with her operations; but of all the perennial miracles she offers to his inspection, perhaps the most worthy of admiration is the development of a plant or of an animal from its embryo.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)

The miracles of the church seem to me to rest not so much upon faces or voices or healing power coming suddenly near to us from afar off, but upon our perceptions being made finer, so that for a moment our eyes can see and our ears can hear what is there about us always.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)
