Language
The Raffles strip is noted for its substitution of formal language in common slang phrases. For example:
- 'Kick the little bastard' becomes 'Lapidate the little illegitimate'
- 'Tits oot for the lads' (tag line of Viz character Sid the Sexist ) becomes 'Remove your decollétage from its corsetry for the delectation of the gentlemen present'
- 'Fanny magnet' (when describing his new car) becomes 'Vaginal lodestone'
- 'You big girl's blouse' becomes 'You sizable ladies chemise'

Famous quotes containing the word language:
“Now stamp the Lords Prayer on a grain of rice,
A Bible-leaved of all the written woods
Strip to this tree: a rocking alphabet,
Genesis in the root, the scarecrow word,
And one lights language in the book of trees.”
—Dylan Thomas (19141953)
“What may this mean? Language of Man pronounced
By tongue of brute, and human sense expressed!
The first at least of these I thought denied
To beasts, whom God on their creation-day
Created mute to all articulate sound;
The latter I demur, for in their looks
Much reason, and in their actions, oft appears.”
—John Milton (16081674)
“No language is rude that can boast polite writers.”
—Aubrey Beardsley (18721898)
