Gun effective ceiling varied depending on the predictor and fuze. The Mk VI ordnance significantly increased the potential effective ceiling. The British definition of effective ceiling at the start of World War II was “that height at which a directly approaching target at 400 mph can be engaged for 20 seconds before the gun reaches 70° elevation”

Famous quotes containing the word performance:
“Nobody can misunderstand a boy like his own mother.... Mothers at present can bring children into the world, but this performance is apt to mark the end of their capacities. They cant even attend to the elementary animal requirements of their offspring. It is quite surprising how many children survive in spite of their mothers.”
—Norman Douglas (18681952)
“To vote is like the payment of a debta duty never to be neglected, if its performance is possible.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
“There are people who think that wrestling is an ignoble sport. Wrestling is not sport, it is a spectacle, and it is no more ignoble to attend a wrestled performance of suffering than a performance of the sorrows of Arnolphe or Andromaque.”
—Roland Barthes (19151980)
