Interpretations

The Vedanta Sutras state janmādy asya yatah, meaning that 'The Absolute Truth is that from which everything else emanates' Bhagavata Purana . This Absolute Truth, which is personal in nature, is Purusha personified.

In Samkhya, a school of Hindu philosophy, Purusha is pure consciousness. It is thought to be our true identity, to be contrasted with Prakrti, or the material world, which contains all of our organs, senses, and intellectual faculties.

The word Purusha is one of the name of the lord Shiv, Which is known as the pure Purusha (Person, who follow the law of gratitude). According to the following hindu mantra, purusha is a pereson(Mahadev) having purushartha(nature of giving). "Tat purushay vid mahe, Mahadevay dhee mahee. Tanno rudrah prachodyat".

In the Ramayana the lord Ram is told as the "Maryada Purushottama", Means the greatest among purushas which follow the law of gratitude without breaking any kind of Maryada(limitation) like the limitations of a normal person. Lord Ram did not do any magical event and explained how a normal person can fight against evils and win.

As being "Maryada Purushottam" in the Ramayana lord Vishnu could not satisfy to a lot of persons like to various ladies(which had desire to marry with him), Jamvanta(A great fighter, which had desire to fight with a person, who can defeat him) because it was against the "Maryada" so he took next birth as being lord Krishna, satisfied all them and at last known as "Purushottam"(Greatest person).
