Apart from the Jhalda municipality, the subdivision contains two census towns and rural areas of 59 gram panchayats under seven community development blocks: Jhalda–I, Jhalda–II, Jaipur, Arsha, Bagmundi, Balarampur and Barabazar. The two census towns are: Balarampur and Barabazar.
