Purple Book is the informal name for Sony and Philips' specification document for the double-density compact disc (DDCD) format. The Purple Book format allows a CD to hold 1.3 Gigabytes by narrowing the track pitch from 1.6 to 1.1 micrometre s, and shortening the minimum pit length from 0.833 to 0.623 micrometres.

Famous quotes containing the words purple and/or book:
“Ah splendour, my goddess turns:
or was it the sudden heat,
beneath quivering of molten flesh,
of veins, purple as violets?”
—Hilda Doolittle (18861961)
“With a few exceptions, the critics of childrens books are remarkably lenient souls.... Most of us assume there is something good in every child; the critics go from this to assume there is something good in every book written for a child. It is not a sound theory.”
—Katharine S. White (18921977)
