The dramatized documentary of the BBC from 2003 on the opening of the Colosseum is built around the two characters Priscus and Verus, based on the historic gladiators. In this story, they were both slaves who had risen through the gladiatorial ranks. Priscus was born a slave from Gaul, unlike Verus who was born free, and is known mainly for his battle with Priscus.
