Prime Minister of Canada - Origin of The Office

Origin of The Office

The position of prime minister is not outlined in any Canadian constitutional document and is mentioned only in passing in Schedule B of the Constitution Act, 1982, and the Letters Patent issued in 1947 by King George VI. The office and its functions are instead governed by constitutional conventions and modelled on the same office in the United Kingdom.

Famous quotes containing the words origin of, origin and/or office:

The real, then, is that which, sooner or later, information and reasoning would finally result in, and which is therefore independent of the vagaries of me and you. Thus, the very origin of the conception of reality shows that this conception essentially involves the notion of a COMMUNITY, without definite limits, and capable of a definite increase of knowledge.
    Charles Sanders Peirce (1839–1914)

For, though the origin of most of our words is forgotten, each word was at first a stroke of genius, and obtained currency, because for the moment it symbolized the world to the first speaker and to the hearer. The etymologist finds the deadest word to have been once a brilliant picture.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The human face is the organic seat of beauty.... It is the register of value in development, a record of Experience, whose legitimate office is to perfect the life, a legible language to those who will study it, of the majestic mistress, the soul.
    Eliza Farnham (1815–1864)
