Powerglide - Types

Types

There were two primary types or versions of the Power Glide. The Power Glide transmission introduced in 1950 had a cast iron case and is known as the "Cast Iron Power Glide". The "Cast Iron Power Glide" was used until 1963, when it was revamped as "Aluminum Power Glide" where its case and several of its other parts were made of aluminum. The Aluminum Powerglide was used from 1962 until it was replaced with the Turbo-hydramatic series of transmission in 1973. The Aluminum Power Glide is still used today as a racing transmission of choice by many racers mainly for the fact that it only shifts once, and for its extreme durability. It is also possible to purchase all the parts needed to build an Aluminum Power Glide from scratch from most racing parts vendors.

Famous quotes containing the word types:

Science is intimately integrated with the whole social structure and cultural tradition. They mutually support one other—only in certain types of society can science flourish, and conversely without a continuous and healthy development and application of science such a society cannot function properly.
    Talcott Parsons (1902–1979)

He’s one of those know-it-all types that, if you flatter the wig off him, he chatter like a goony bird at mating time.
—Michael Blankfort. Lewis Milestone. Johnson (Reginald Gardner)

The American man is a very simple and cheap mechanism. The American woman I find a complicated and expensive one. Contrasts of feminine types are possible. I am not absolutely sure that there is more than one American man.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)
