Port San Antonio

Port San Antonio is a multi-purpose, 1,900-acre (7.7 km2) facility in San Antonio, Texas, USA established to serve as an aerospace complex, international airport and industrial hub with two railroads and close access to three interstate highways. Established at the former site of Kelly Air Force Base, the 1,900-acre (7.7 km2) facility is centrally located between the coasts of the United States and along the NASCO corridor between Canada and Mexico. Port San Antonio enjoys designation as a Foreign Trade Zone (#80-10).

Originally established in 1995 by the San Antonio City Council as the Greater Kelly Development Authority, it was re-established under its current name in 2007. Its tenants include such companies as The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, CDI Technology Services, and Standard Aero. Currently in the planning stage is a Town Center project at the port's center which would offer office space as well as provide retail, dining and housing options.

There are more than 70 companies with facilities at Port San Antonio, including aerospace, information technology and heavy industrial customers, among others. According to a 2010 study, the 13 aerospace companies operating out of the Port were found to have accounted for $1.46 billion in annual economic activity for the region.

Famous quotes containing the words port, san and/or antonio:

When we think back to our forefathers, with their sedentary lives of forest-chopping, railroad-building, fortune-founding, their fox-hunting and Indian taming, their prancing about in the mazurka and the polka, with their coattails flying and their bustles bouncing, to say nothing of their all-day sessions with the port and straight bourbon,... we must realize that we are a nation, not of neurasthenics, but of sissies and slow-motion sports.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)

It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

Socialism can only arrive by bicycle.
—José Antonio Viera Gallo (b. 1943)
