Plauderville (NJT Station)

Plauderville (NJT Station)

Plauderville Station is a New Jersey Transit train station located in Garfield, New Jersey, United States and served by Bergen County Line trains. The station is in the north side of the city in the vicinity of Midland Avenue between Plauderville Avenue and Outwater Lane. The station is a full-service station as of April 2012, and has high-level platforms making the station handicapped accessible.

Prior to the opening of the new structure on October 11, 2011, Plauderville Station was located on the border between Garfield and neighboring Saddle Brook, with the border between Saddle Brook and Garfield passing through the station's platforms. The station featured low-level platforms with a shelter and ticket machines on the Hoboken-bound platform, with none on the Suffern-bound platform. In addition, due to the low platforms there was no accessibility and riders had to go to either Rutherford or Glen Rock Boro Hall stations to get a train on the Bergen County Line (those being the closest stations with accessibility ramps).

Plauderville Station had been a 'limited service station' much like Garfield's other station located on Passaic Street. Limited service denotes that trains stopped running from Garfield to Hoboken in early afternoon despite return trip service all day. Recent schedule changes, around April 2012 has added evening and weekday service at Plauderville Station. As a result the Plauderville Station has seemed to usurp the Garfield Station. It also has risen in status as the city's primary "go-to" station (or station of choice).

An old box car body was installed at Plauderville in 1913 at a cost of $150 (1913 USD). Starting in 2009, with money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, New Jersey Transit received funds to construct high-level platforms at Plauderville on the south side of Midland Avenue. Trains used the low-level platform until October 10, 2011, when trains were moved to the completed high-level platforms. This construction adds Plauderville to the list of stations on the Bergen County Line in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, along with Rutherford station and Glen Rock's Boro Hall station.
