Planning Acts

Four inter-related acts of Parliament in the United Kingdom passed in 1990 to reform the planning system in England and Wales.

They were:-

  • Town and Country Planning Act 1990 - The Principal Act
  • Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990
  • Planning (Hazardous Substances) Act 1990
  • Planning (Consequential Provisions) Act 1990.

The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 remains in force as the principal planning act in the England and Wales but has received a number of revisions and alterations in the form of:-

  • Planning and Compensation Act 1991
  • Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995
  • Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 - sections of which also apply to Scotland.
