Pine Bush Elementary School

Pine Bush Elementary School is one of four operated by the Pine Bush Central School District in Orange County, New York, USA. It is located a short distance off NY 302 on Ulsterville Road south of Pine Bush, not far from Pine Bush High School.

It educates children in kindergarten through fifth grade from not only Pine Bush but Thompson Ridge, Bullville, Circleville and the adjoining portions of Sullivan and Ulster counties. Along with E. J. Russell, the school has sent teams to the international Odyssey of the Mind finals.

Completed in 1991, PBE was constructed on land which is considered by locals to be swampy ground, and has regularly experienced indoor air quality problems of mysterious origin. Over the years, numerous parents and teachers have accused the facility of suffering from sick building syndrome.

During most of 2006/07 school year, the kindergarten wing at PBE was evacuated due to deadly stachybotrys black mold, while these classrooms underwent total interior renovation. After work was completed, the kindergarten wing was declared safe and re-opened in Sept. 2007. However, parents continue to complain that their children have been getting sick frequently, for extended periods, suffering symptoms consistent with toxic mold poisoning. In late 2007, parents launched a website, fungusbusters.org, dedicated to exposing the school's 17-year history of indoor air quality health problems, scanning and posting stacks of hard-to-find public records detailing this issue.

Famous quotes containing the words pine, bush, elementary and/or school:

It is surprising on stepping ashore anywhere into this unbroken wilderness to see so often, at least within a few rods of the river, the marks of an axe, made by lumberers who have either camped here or driven logs past in previous springs. You will see perchance where, going on the same errand that you do, they have cut large chips from a tall white pine stump for their fire.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Here’s neither bush nor shrub to bear off any weather at all. And another storm brewing, I hear it sing i’ the wind. Yond same black cloud, yond huge one, looks like a foul bombard that would shed his liquor. If it should thunder as it did before, I know not where to hide my head. Yond same cloud cannot choose but fall by pailfuls.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

When the Devil quotes Scriptures, it’s not, really, to deceive, but simply that the masses are so ignorant of theology that somebody has to teach them the elementary texts before he can seduce them.
    Paul Goodman (1911–1972)

I seemed intent on making it as difficult for myself as possible to pursue my “male” career goal. I not only procrastinated endlessly, submitting my medical school application at the very last minute, but continued to crave a conventional female role even as I moved ahead with my “male” pursuits.
    Margaret S. Mahler (1897–1985)
