Pictorialism - Pictorial Photographers

Pictorial Photographers

Following are two lists of prominent photographers who engaged in pictorialism during their careers. The first list includes photographs who were predominantly pictorialists for all or almost all of their careers (generally those active from 1880-1920). The second list includes 20th century photographers who used a pictorial style early in the careers but who are more well known for pure or straight photography.

Famous quotes containing the word pictorial:

The difference between human vision and the image perceived by the faceted eye of an insect may be compared with the difference between a half-tone block made with the very finest screen and the corresponding picture as represented by the very coarse screening used in common newspaper pictorial reproduction. The same comparison holds good between the way Gogol saw things and the way average readers and average writers see things.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)
